ALTITUDE TRAINING CAMP OPTIONS
Altitude training can be used in the peak phase of training before competition. However, there should be a minimal of three weeks at sea level prior to competition. Two weeks for high intensity training at sea level and one week for tapering before competition 4-6 week camp.
Altitude training can be used at the end of the base phase, just prior to high-intensity training. The increased oxygen-carrying capacity then allows higher intensity training, so the performance enhancement can outlast the life of the extra red blood cells. 1 to 4 week camp.
Altitude training can be used throughout the pre competition training through shorter exposures- 4-7 days repeated every 4-7 weeks. Increased red blood cell production can occur at 4 days of altitude training and the life span of these cells can last for up to 2-3 months during high intensity training.
